To Apple or not to Apple...

Matt and I recently decided to make the switch to Mac computers.  When he got his new computer for school last year, he got his MacBook Pro.  When I lost my phone this year, I got my iPhone.  He bought an airport for a wireless router.  My laptop has had some funky issues, so we decided to get the most out of our money we would get an iMac for me to use, since Matt needs his laptop for school.  Our wonderful custom iMac arrived yesterday...Yea!!!   Except the screen wouldn't light up!  Seriously.   We called the help hotline and they told us to take it to the apple store, so we did.  They told us "tough luck... you have to return by mail since you bought it over the internet."  So here I wait, for my own computer to use, with pictures to download and edit, and no computer for over a month... at least they knocked off an extra $100 for the inconvenience of sending it back.  So the question is, to apple or not to apple...

Georgia Updates

We are finally getting into the full swing of things down here in Georgia.  I have already been working at University Hospital for the past two weeks including two days in the CVPU (one of the four area's I will be trained to work in).  It is different then what I  was used to at Abbott, especially the way they document and place orders.... think of merging old school electronic medical documentation merging with paper orders... yuck!!!  Other then the documentation piece, I think I'm going to like the CVPU.

Matt has also finished his first full week of school, and is getting familiar with text books.  He will be expected to put aside around 60 hours a week just towards study time.... I don't envy him right now studying action potentials!   We have managed to get out and have some fun with several cook outs with his classmates and their spouses at various homes, including ours last Friday!

Bella is getting used to the heat and humidity down here.  She gets walks by mid morning or late evening to avoid the extremes of the weather.  She has been curious with all the bugs around here, especially the GIANT grasshoppers!  I know a lot of people warned us about the cockroach problem that  happens when living in Ga.  Our landlord did get a chance to spray the house down before we moved in, but those roaches are smart!  They will sneak in as we open the door to let B out to the bathroom which we just grab the vacuum and suck them up in it.  We have had 4 cockroaches to date in our house that we didn't see sneak in, BUT they were belly up due to the spray our landlord used prior to us moving in.

Hopefully my next post I will have some pics to show of our house and neighborhood.  Our surroundings are very classic Georgia with large homes, large trees, large front porches and friendly people!

Home Sweet Home!

Well we finally made it!  However it was not the adventure we were looking for...

We left on Friday July 29 only to make it to mile marker number 76 on 35W only to turn around due to our U Haul truck having engine problems, so we slowly made our way back to the Burnsville location.  After the mechanic took a look at it several times, it was determined we needed a new truck.  Now that would not have been an issue any other weekend except we choose to move on the busy weekend of the year, and U Haul could not say when a truck would be available.  We heading to a hotel for the night and came back early in the morning. It took A LOT of pushing on our part, but they were able to find us a truck.  So we got the lovely pleasure of unpacking our stuff out of the broken truck and re-packing it into the new truck.  The company was suppose to get us a moving company to help complete the packing but then claimed "We didn't need it since some of the workers were helping" at the Burnsville location.  Needless to say, we got on the road that Saturday night and made it to Mt Pleasant, IA before stopping to catch some zzz's.  We still are dealing with some issues with U Haul for getting reimbursed for not having movers to help with the transfer of our belongings from truck to truck and for the auto transport we could not  use because the truck could not handle to weight of towing a vehicle.

But we made it in the end!  We arrived to Augusta, Ga a little after noon on Monday August 1. (We did some power driving all day on Sunday and made it to the west side of Atlanta early Monday morning, so we had just a two hour drive for our Monday drive.)  Our home is  a typical "cute" southern home with a   large front porch with a swing!  We still have some cleaning and unpacking to do, but it is starting to feel like home!!!  Oh, I do have to add that Bella did great with the move and started to relax a bit once she started to see our stuff unpack.  I will post pictures once we get a little more put together.

Last but not least, we did take some time for a little R & R out in South Carolina at Hilton Head Island for a few days.  We ate some AMAZING seafood and relaxed at the beach on the Atlantic.  Bella even took her first swim in the ocean!

Until next time....
